Dietro ogni nota c’è una storia e ogni disco ha qualcosa da raccontare all’ascoltatore. Ne sa qualcosa Luciano Troja, pianista e compositore messinese, ospite questa sera di Anteprima Sicilia a Naxoslegge.
Una vita vissuta tra i tasti bianchi e neri del pianoforte, a rincorrere un’emozione, un concetto, un’idea per trasformarla in un flusso di musica che trascina lo spirito lontano. A Giardini Naxos racconterà al pubblico la storia di un’avventura lunga cinque anni e oltre: la storia dell’album At Home With Zindars, una narrazione intima e delicata in musica (16 brani per piano solo) e testi della vita e della musica del compositore americano Earl Zindars.
Come ci si sente a svestire i panni del musicista per indossare, per una sera, quelli del narratore?
“Per me il problema è proprio questo, parlare e non suonare in pubblico è un’esperienza senza dubbio strana, anche se in fondo la materia si presta. Parlerò del disco At Home With Zindars, un album diviso in due parti, una suonata e l’altra scritta interamente da me. Un cd con annesso un libro di 40 pagine che ha avuto una gestazione lunga, di cinque anni e oltre. Diciamo che per Naxoslegge parlerò del 50% del disco. Chi sarà curioso di sentire il resto, ascolterà la prima parte dell’album. Da parte mia in questo lavoro c’è stata la volontà di raccontare una storia. In questo senso l’album è un piccolo romanzo vissuto personalmente, nella casa e tra le persone care di Zindars, che me lo hanno voluto raccontare per trasmettermi tutto il suo mondo. Certo, non sono uno scrittore, anche se mi piacerebbe, sono un musicista. Ma posso dire con certezza che per me questo album è una piccola storia compiuta L’ipotesi è quella di poter sviluppare e riprendere il discorso aperto con un racconto per immagini, una sorta di documentario di cui stiamo discutendo con Gigi Spedale e Vincenzo Tripodo”.
Quale sarà la novità che presenterai ad Anteprima Sicilia, la sezione dedicata agli inediti di Naxoslegge?
“Presenterò il disco D’istante3, uscito tre giorni fa. Un progetto che nasce a New York, dall’incontro mio e del chitarrista Giancarlo Mazzù – con cui collaboro da circa dieci anni- con il sassofonista/clarinettista americano Blaise Siwula, conosciuto nel 2006 durante una serie di concerti con la formazione Mahanada. Siamo stati invitati a suonare all’Abc No-Rio, dove da circa quindici anni Blaise tiene una rassegna di musica improvvisata. In coda al concerto si aggregò anche lui e venne fuori un bellissimo incontro musicale. Negli anni successivi io e Giancarlo siamo tornati più volte a New York e ci siamo esibiti con Blaise in vari club e centri culturali, cercando di elaborare un “nostro” linguaggio, che nell’aprile del 2011 è confluito nella registrazione del cd D’istante3, registrato al Wombat Studio di Brooklyn, e pubblicato per l’etichetta inglese SLAM di George Haslam”.
Che effetto fa essere recensito più sulla stampa americana che in quella nostrana?
“Negli stati Uniti ho avuto tanti riconoscimenti, estremamente importanti, tra tutti quelli della rivista americana Stereophile, che ha assegnato al cd At Home With Zindars il massimo riconoscimento annuale della critica “Record To Die For 2011”; poi la nomination al 10°Independent Music Awards. Ma anche in Italia ho avuto recensioni positive ed entusiastiche, sopratutto da parte dei critici storici che mi hanno incoraggiato a proseguire la mia ricerca musicale. Certo, sono molte meno che all’estero, ma sta nelle cose, nella normalità della musica italiana. Di certo non posso lamentarmi”.
